Striving for community transformation

Healing the MidSouth was born from a vision God placed on my heart — a calling to restore broken spaces and uplift underserved communities through love, service, and stewardship. What began as a seed of faith has grown into a community development nonprofit rooted in healing the land and the people.

Our purpose is to transform lives by addressing the very foundations of well-being: stable housing, nourishing food, and connection to nature. We believe that by reclaiming forgotten spaces and empowering those who live there, we’re not just creating change; we’re answering a higher call to bring restoration, equity, and hope to the Mid-South.

We’re not just filling gaps,  we’re building foundations. From revitalizing vacant lots to creating safe, nurturing spaces for families, our work centers on healing communities in a lasting, sustainable way. Through partnership, equity, and action, we’re planting the seeds for a stronger Mid-South — one block at a time.

Afforable Housing

We aim to make safe, stable, and affordable housing a reality for families in the Mid-South. Our efforts focus on identifying land, collaborating with ethical contractors, and walking alongside families through the process of securing long-term housing rooted in equity and dignity.

Memphis faces a pressing housing crisis: nearly 43% of renters spend over 35% of their income on housing, making it one of the least affordable cities for renters in the nation. With a shortage of over 16,000 housing units, and median rents outpacing incomes, many families are left without stable or safe housing options.

At Healing the MidSouth, we’re working to bridge this gap by developing affordable, community-centered housing solutions that restore dignity—and now, we're taking it a step further. We're also exploring sustainable building methods to reduce carbon footprints and promote healthier environments for generations to come.

Green Spaces

We transform neglected or unused land into vibrant, welcoming green spaces. From neighborhood parks to healing gardens, we create areas where families can rest, reconnect, and breathe. These spaces promote mental wellness, physical health, and community pride.

  • Only 46% of residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park, compared to the national median of 74%.

  • Low-income neighborhoods have 7% less park space per person than the city average, limiting access to recreational and wellness opportunities.

Community Garden

Our gardens are more than places to grow food. We use gardening as a tool to teach sustainability, improve food access, and foster collaboration across generations. Every harvest feeds not only the body but the spirit of our neighborhoods.

Food insecurity remains a challenge in many Memphis neighborhoods, especially in areas classified as food deserts. Community gardens are vital not only providing fresh, nutritious produce but also creating spaces where neighbors come together, learn, and grow.
Through these gardens, we foster connection, education, and nourishment for body and soul.

Our Goal
  • Provide affordable housing to 15 families by constructing our first energy-efficient duplex loft unit, reducing household carbon emissions by up to 3 metric tons annually.

  • Transform a 0.5-acre lot into a vibrant green space with over 30 native trees, shrubs, and plants to absorb approximately 1,450 pounds of CO₂ per year.

  • Expand the RTC (Reverse the Curse) Community Garden to 1,000+ square feet, promoting food access, education, and local sustainability.

  • Reduce total community carbon emissions by over 4 metric tons annually through sustainable design, land use, and regenerative practices.

  • Secure 2–3 strategic partnerships with organizations or businesses that align with our mission of community transformation and environmental healing.
